FAQs

  • Firefly Pediatrics of Holland does not participate in any insurance plans. We do accept patients with and without insurance, but we do not bill insurance for the services provided. We are considered an out-of-network provider. Your membership fees cover essentially all of the primary care needs of your child. There are no surprise/hidden costs and no copays.

Your membership with Firefly Pediatrics of Holland is NOT an insurance plan. We recommend that families carry at minimum a high-deductible insurance plan for coverage of specialty services, out of office labs, imaging, emergency care, surgery, or hospitalization.

If your child is covered under Medicaid, you may still join our practice. However, your monthly membership fee cannot be submitted to Medicaid for reimbursement. You will need to sign a waiver that declares that neither you nor Firefly Pediatrics of Holland will bill Medicaid for your membership fees. You can still use your Medicaid plan for visits with specialists, labs, medications, etc.

Be sure to ask your employer or accountant about the possibility of covering membership services through your HSA/FSA, making it tax-deductible. We are happy to provide an invoice for care as needed.

We will collect your insurance information for the purpose of billing your insurance directly for your child’s vaccines.

  • Children are unpredictable! They can get sick or injured in the blink of an eye. Because we take care of so many fewer patients than a traditional practice, we can see your child that same day they develop a problem. If your child becomes sick in the evening, you can call us then. The savings from no longer needing unnecessary visits to the urgent care or emergency department can pay for your membership in itself. Not to mention, no one knows your child’s health history better than their own pediatrician. And no more speaking with a nursing triage system that is following a scripted protocol after hours. You will have direct access to your pediatrician when you need us most. In addition, your child may visit their doctor as many times as needed for a low monthly fee with no copays.

  • We encourage all of our patients to continue to carry health insurance. While our services cover all typical primary care services and visits in your membership fee, there are some services for which you will need to use your insurance:

    - Visits with any physician or specialist outside of Firefly Pediatrics of Holland : urgent care or emergency department visits, hospitalizations, specialty referrals.

    - Visits with physical, occupational, or speech therapy, chiropractic, psychological counseling or testing.

-Any procedures, labs, radiology studies, or prescriptions obtained outside of Firefly Pediatrics of Holland.

    - Some vaccines. We work with a local pharmacy and a group purchasing organization to obtain most of your child’s vaccines. Some of the vaccines for older kids/teens are very expensive and we may recommend using your insurance and getting them at a local pharmacy or health department if we do not have them in stock.

  • Firefly Pediatrics of Holland follows evidence-based science regarding vaccines. We encourage the CDC recommended vaccination schedule. We do not recommend delayed or modified schedules for the vaccines required for school attendance. If you choose not to vaccinate or to delay vaccines, we will ask you to sign a waiver that you understand the inherent risks of declining the recommended vaccines.

  • One of the benefits of DPC is convenience. Because we know our families so well, we can take care of your child via a virtual visit and send in a prescription to a pharmacy near you if needed.

  • While we do not directly take care of children who are admitted to the hospital, we have relationships with the doctors (hospitalists) who take care of hospitalized children at all of the local hospitals. We are in contact with these doctors during your child’s stay and we will see your child after discharge to ensure continuity of care.

  • Yes! We include house calls for newborns for the first two months of life as part of your membership. We know how difficult it is to leave the house with a newborn and we would like to keep their exposures to a minimum. We may also offer house calls for older patients at the doctor’s discretion.

  • You can click the “contact us” button on the home page or call/email to set up a meet and greet. We can answer any questions you have about the practice and make sure that we are a good fit. If you have decided to enroll, click the ENROLL button at the top right hand corner of this site. By filling out the form, you will be creating a chart for the EMR system and setting up a portal for you to use to access this chart. We will then contact you with the steps needed to complete registration. You must complete the process for each child you would like to enroll separately.

  • Membership may be canceled at any time after a 3 month minimum. To cancel, you must provide a written 30 day notice. If you have paid for the entire year in advance, you will be reimbursed for the unused months. If you decide to join again at a later date, you will be subject to a $250 reactivation fee and there is no guarantee that a spot will still be available.
